Rabbi Zimmer makes his main point early and often – the issue is not the proper delineation of “religion” in the Land of Israel/Palestine. The issue is Zionist ideology’s drive to convert the Jewish people into a “nation like all other nations” thus voiding Bnei Yisrael’s spiritual mission. Sadly, this matter has been lost sight of because of the involvement of religious parties in Israeli politics with the average Israeli assuming that the religious accept the Zionist state as long as their yeshiva stipends are maintained. Doubly sadly, many of the religious in Israel hold by this.
