The Book of Redemption represents Ramban’s attempt to clarify one of the major themes of Judaism regarding the future of Israel. In an age of religious disputations, during which the Church, the most powerful force in Europe, joined by the State in some countries like Spain, mustered all their might in an effort to convert Jews to Christianity, it was imperative to dispel their claims that all the Biblical prophecies had already been fulfilled, that the Messiah had already come, etc. It was with this aim of “sustaining with words those that are weary of the exile” and to strengthen them in their belief in the coming redemption, that Ramban composed this work.
