Description

This volume of poetry, by Rebbitzen Frieda K. Hirmes, encompasses a wide range of Jewish and secular topics. The poems were written throughout her life, from her teens

into her eighties.

Throughout the volume, we can continually sense her unshakable faith in G-d. She expresses her love of Zion and the State of Israel in an almost biblical style. Her intense anguish over the Holocaust reminds one of the writings of Elie Wiesel (who read her poems and sent her a lovely letter). Her feelings in reaction to the various events of her family life are told with such moving language; and her thoughts on nature and the nature of Man are at times whimsical and at other times very probing. Her special style includes a unique punctuation

and shape to the lines of poetry.

Book I, entitled "Faith" was originally published in 1971 and Book II, "Courage and Hope" in 1972. Book III, "Eternal Words" contains a posthumous collection of additional poems.
